| Good Neighbours |
| Moving into a new neighborhood can be one of the most stressful and emotional things you will ever do. Thanks to a new group called Good Neighbors, the whole experience is being made a lot easier. |

June Straub is the creator of Good Neighbours, a free service to new residents in the Penrith area in Sydney. Good Neighbors provides a personal service to all new arrivals to the district. They are personally welcomed to the area, provided with community information, and details on services, facilities and amenities available in their area. The group visits between 50 and 60 families a week.
Amanda and Stephen Reeves were new to the area and found the service to be very useful, especially the booklets and local maps. The booklets include information on local restaurants, emergency numbers, medical services, council regulations and local attractions. All this information is supplied by Penrith City Council and distributed by Good Neighbours.
Another facet of Good Neighbours is that it provides new clients for the businesses in the area. Each new family is given an introduction card from participating businesses. They then take that card in to the business in question, and receive a free gift. This allows new residents to find new nurseries, hairdressers, chemists and the like, and helps businesses to increase their clientele.
It is with the sponsorship from local businesses that the Good Neighbours program is able to keep on welcoming new people. Good Neighbours has been so successful that they are thinking about expanding into new areas. |
