| Great ideas on making the most of a small space, in this kitchen makeover. |

This small terrace house is only just big enough for a family of three. But, it could be a lot more functional. So it's time to knock down a wall and modernise the kitchen. Most importantly, the new design will make the most of the space and improve access.
Firstly the wall between the dining room and the kitchen is pulled down, and the door to the bathroom is moved. A deck is built over the kitchen and the skylight replaced with reinforced glass. The owners will rip out the existing kitchen themselves pulling out the old cabinets, cupboards, benches, stove top, sink and other fixtures, as well as the old tiled splashback.
The owners have decided to install a Freedom Kitchen and have followed Freedom's easy three step process: Planning and design: the owners were visited by a designer and their ideas were drawn into accurate plans. They were given an estimated cost for installation and trades. Site Check: The kitchen was given a site check by a Freedom Kitchens Direct approved and licensed cabinet maker. The new kitchen was ordered. Installation: It's all put together
To create more room and easier access, the owners want their new kitchen to be open plan and simple. Lyn particularly wants a lot of shelving. So, the new configuration will have open shelves, several drawers under the benches and a wine rack.
The existing cupboards have "honey" coloured timber doors. These will be replaced with timber look cabinets in "cherry". The new bench tops will be Brazilian Granite and the tiling will include terracotta tiles on the floor and a black/red splashback.
The new Freedom bench tops have the "Magic Drip Edge" that stops leaks and spills from running underneath the bench tops and into the cupboards. A strip along the underside of the bench top forces spills to drip onto the floor, which is much easier to clean up and keeps the contents of your cupboards dry.
With such a small kitchen, the owners need a small dishwasher, so they've chosen the Smeg SA495. This is only 45cm wide so it fits into compact and awkward spaces. The dishwasher retails for approximately $1450.

Cost The cost for this new Freedom Kitchen is approximately $6900 plus the dishwasher. These costs do not include installation or tiling.
