There's no doubt moving house is a stressful business; its up there with divorce and the death of a loved one on the stress scale. Today, we watch the Clarke family move house with help from The Finishing Touch, a specialist pre-moving and home unpacking service. The Finishing Touch will show Rebecca how quickly and efficiently they transform a chaotic, carton filled house into a livable home in just one day. We'll also follow another family moving without the assistance of a home packing service and compare the results.
The Clarke family have chosen The Finishing Touch to help them downsize from a large three bedroom home. As part of the pre-move assist service, a first night survival kit is prepared, including easy-to-lose items such as remote controls, mobile phone chargers, tea/coffee, medicines and bedlinen. The kitchen is then prepared for the move by cleaning whitegoods, emptying crumbs from toaster and sorting items of no further use. By the end of the day, the Clarke's new home is completely unpacked and ready to be lived in.
Nell and Adrian have been packing their unit for the past few weeks. They have thrown out a lot of junk themselves and have bought new furniture. Although it may have taken Nell and Adrian longer to move, they are very organised and have allowed about two weeks to unpack and settle into their new home.
To prepack and unpack a standard three bedroom house like the Clarke's would cost around $1,000 plus around $1,000 extra for the actual move. Nell and Adrian's move cost around $500.
