Early detection and prevention is very important when it comes to termites, and this is where the first water-based treatment in Australia, called Premise 200 SC, comes into use. It has low toxicity to humans, pets and wildlife, whilst being deadly to termites. Because of this, it is not necessary to leave your home while the treatment is being applied. Premise produces no airborne residues.

With Premise, the termites are affected when they come into contact with the treated soil or barrier. With traditional termiticides, termites avoid the "barrier" and can often find another way into the home. This treatment should be carried out by qualified personnel.

1
First, an arsenic dusting treatment is applied to the affected timber areas in the roof if necessary.

2
Trenches are dug around the foundation walls and piers below the house and Premise is sprayed into those areas until they are saturated.

3
Premise is injected into drill holes in the internal concrete slab areas, where the floorboards have been removed. The drill holes are then filled and sealed at the completion of treatment with a waterproof material.

4
Some external soil areas and trees are treated. The termite nests can be up to 50 metres from the damaged areas, and may even be in your neighbour's garden.

Warning signs associated with termites are:

Mud patches on architraves, stairs and skirting.
Mud tunnels which connect the underground nest to the food source (ie.wood).
Blistering paint on windows, doors and skirtings.
Faint tapping noises behind walls of plaster sheeting and timber.
Failure of electrical power.

Prevention:

Regular inspections; at least annually.
Improve sub floor access, especially to the rear area and suspended slabs.
Remove soil from areas of sub floor-helps for inspection.
Ensure you fix broken or leaking pipes, shower base, etc.
Use resistant materials, eg. Cypress pine when building over an existing slab.
Don't cover up sub floor vents.
Remove stored timber from around your house to reduce the risk.
