1
Reverse Garbage is a community co-operative dedicated to recycling waste for household use, arts and crafts. They sell industrial leftovers, offcuts and rejects that would normally end up at the tip.

2
To its loyal customers, Reverse Garbage doesn't sell rubbish - it sells really useful junk. Reverse Garbage collects its stock from almost 300 outlets in and around Sydney (including Gosford, Windsor and Wollongong), which it then on-sells very cheaply.

3
The philosophy is very simple. Every tonne sold here is one less tonne adding to our landfill problem. Reverse Garbage collects the equivalent of one swimming pool in volume every week.

4
They accept safe, non-toxic, clean materials that everyone can use. In the process of recycling these materials, people are reducing the amount of raw materials that they use and waste.

5
The warehouses are overflowing with a huge variety of materials such as paper, cardboard, Perspex, rubber, leather, fabric, timber furniture, computer parts, etc, as well as new items that come in every week. Customers include playgroups, school craft teachers, art students, set designers and, of course, home renovators.

6
The materials can be used for a variety of things, including funky storage barrels made from shipping containers and a jolly snowman created from offcuts of Dacron, felt and ribbon. Polystyrene can be used for sub-floor insulation, while three simple pieces of Perspex can be turned into a fun kaleidoscope.

7
Reverse Garbage does not handle hazardous, contaminated or fragile materials.
