1 Pencils with a good sharp point 2 A tape measure. 3 A square for right angles and squaring off 4 A drop saw. It's a big investment but if you do a lot of cutting it's worth it. You just set the angle and tweak it and there it is. You can't miss with a tool like this. It makes everything a whole lot easier. With a pencil, tape measure, a square and a drop saw you can make just about anything. 5 A good saw horse or work bench. Whatever you are doing in your workshop, you need a good platform to work on and you can't beat the old saw horse or a solid work bench. 6 A top of the line power drill. You're better off paying a bit more to get one with a bit of grunt because that's the one that's going to last longer in your workshop. 7 Sound basics like a decent saw and hammer. 8 A sharpening stone. It doesn't matter what tool you use, if it's a cutting tool - from a handsaw to a chisel or a Stanley knife - it's got to be sharp. Blunt tools are useless. 9 A fully ventilated dust mask if you are dealing with compressed fibreboard which throws up a superfine dust when you are planing or cutting. 10 Tools, tools, tools. These days there are fantastic tools around that make just about any job in the workshop easier, and in my book, you can never have enough tools. It's a bloke thing. I'll keep buying tools until the day I die. Most men do. That's why it's important to make sure your budget is limitless... don't we just wish!
