This magnificent house constructed from Mount Gambier limestone has breathtaking views of Victoria's Mornington Peninsula and was built especially for visiting family and friends to enjoy. So much so, the third level of the house has been entirely dedicated to leisure activities. A tennis court, art/recreation area, indoor spa, sauna and swimming pool all feature as part of this level and a modern funky bright red bar dominates the room.

The site was discovered by the owners at Mount Martha on Melbourne's Mornington Peninsula. The brief for architect Rob McBride, from Melbourne firm McBride Charles Ryan, was for something modern but also the type of home friends and family can visit. Heather's daughter, Debbie-Lyn Ryan was the Interior Designer and Debbie's husband, the architect.

The lower level is for guests and visiting family and comprises three bedrooms with self contained kitchenette. The middle floor has the living areas and the master bedroom. The top floor is dedicated to recreation with a bright red bar, indoor swimming pool/sauna, tennis court and art room. Marble terrazzo flooring has been used throughout with carpet in the bedrooms. The terrazzo is not a cement base and has a synthetic material to keep marble warmer and longer wearing.

The translucent curtaining is a continuous fabric which is a polyester but gives the appearance of silk. The sheer curtaining was chosen so the view at night was not completely blocked as the lights twinkle through the curtains. The funky red bar is made from MDF, layered and cut with red base pigments.

The staircase of the house surrounds the curved shape of the house. The stairs are one of the most important features of the home. The risers have been set at two thirds the height of a normal stair so that you get the feeling of gliding. The stairs are made from spotted gum timber. On each level glimpses of the ocean views are captured through small rectangular windows.
