This home belongs to Mambo creator Dare Jennings. Once a 1920's Californian Bungalow, Dare and an architect friend have transformed it into a modern work of art. Dare has also dubbed it a "bloke's house". So, let's take a look and see what's inside the ultimate bachelor pad.

When Mambo creator, Dare Jennings, bought this beachside house in Sydney it was in need of renovations. He had always dreamed of building a "bloke's house" and knew this was the perfect opportunity to do it. So, he enlisted the help of architect friend, Robert Weir and the transformation began.

The design brief required Andrew to build the house around Dare's art collection and funky furniture. The house is modern and open-plan with fantastic district views. From the street however, the house is hidden from sight. A high wall and dense plants conceal the entrance, which is monitored by security cameras.

The original house had been added to over the years. The renovations saw every room rebuilt except one - a Federation-style bedroom with leadlight windows. The new house is bold, colourful, open plan with large rooms, and most importantly, livable. Dare isn't into the minimalist look, so the house is designed for possessions.

Continuing with the bachelor theme, the construction of the building is incorporated into the décor. The bolts on the verandah are exposed, as are the pipes for the air conditioner, while the steel and timber framework has been made a feature. Another internal feature is a staircase linking the three levels of the house. This supports a bookcase, also running three floors.

The house consists of three levels, with entry on the first floor revealing the kitchen and living area. Upstairs are the bedrooms and bathroom, while downstairs is the laundry and study. And in true "bloke" style, the living area was designed to house a Philippe Starck couch complete with phone and computer connections.

There are very few windows on the side wall which gives privacy from the neighbours, as well as forcing eyes towards the view. In fact, the sliding doors in the living room open completely, so there is no distinguishing line between indoors and out.

The bathroom is one of the most impressive rooms in the house. It is a walkthrough bathroom that leads onto a deck. The shower is also walkthrough as it has no walls or doors. The bath is Japanese in style and sunk in a glass/timber frame. Like the rest of the house, the bathroom is open plan and masculine in style.

Naturally, art plays an important role in Dare's home. His walls are covered in colourful paintings, many of which are by Mambo artists. These include a Hoodoo Gurus album cover and a series of untraditional portraits of the boys from Mental As Anything. Even the tiles in the kitchen have an artistic touch. They're decorated with small pictures and the words to "I'm Your Man" by Leonard Cohen.

From the exterior, the house stands bright amid the lush tropical garden. The three levels are outlined by coloured steel poles, with bright blue highlighting the first two floors, and red for the top level. There is a pond in the garden which is home to fish and a turtle.

Dare Jennings founded his surf streetwear company, Mambo, in 1984. Today, there are ten stores around the world and an extensive catalogue. Their catalogue has grown from board shorts and tees to include watches, posters, books, CDs, swimwear, bags and wallets, and more.

One of Mambo's most recent successes was being included in the Sydney Olympic Games. Mambo shirts were chosen as part of the Australian team's uniform, while huge Mambo puppets were paraded in the closing ceremony.

Last year, Dare and his business partner sold Mambo to Sydney clothing manufacturer Gazal, although both have stayed with the company. Dare now works as the creative marketing director, giving him more time for his favourite past time, surfing.
