Rebecca takes a tour of Geoff Harvey's 105 acre property in Berrima. Originally purchased as a weekender, the Harvey's renovated the residence moving in permanently last year. As well as the main house there is also a guest house, football field, cricket pitch, vineyards and ponds. Set amongst 70 acres of natural bush, the property overflows with rose and orchid gardens. Geoff shows us what country living is really like.
In 1987, Geoff and Katrina Harvey bought a weekend getaway house in Berrima, south of Sydney. Between January and May 2000, they renovated the cottage, significantly increasing its size with the plan to settle there. After Geoff retired from Midday and took up his part time post with Radio 2GB, they moved into their country abode and couldn't be happier. Geoff does admit, however, to being drawn to the exciting music of cities like Sydney and Melbourne which Bowral is not quite up to.
The house consists of three bedrooms, a sitting room, two studies and a large conservatory country style kitchen and family area featuring large windows overlooking the garden. Downstairs you will find Geoff's music room and wine cellar. These are his pride and joy as when the music isn't happening, he can have a nice drop! In his music room, there are cartoon drawings of Geoff and various awards and memorabilia of his television days as well as his grand piano.
Around the property you'll also find an English country garden, camelias and azelias, a rose garden and a walled herb garden, and the tennis court, football field and cricket pitch which all get a regular workout. There's also the "barn" guesthouse, vegetable gardens and the token cows, horses, sheep and two dogs. |
