Stephane Rondel is the designer and owner of this huge converted warehouse set in Auckland, New Zealand. Built to a modern industrial design, it includes a full-height (3 floors) see-through framed, climbing wall, complete with ropes and hand-holds.

An industrial steel staircase dominates the centre of the warehouse, allowing light to reach all three levels of the home. Glass flooring on the top level also helps light penetrate down through the stairwell to the living areas below. The children’s bedrooms are set on the second level below.

The main bedroom has a quirky interior sliding steel window, which can be opened to provide a view on to the stairwell and the level below. Stephane’s office is set on this top level. His sleek, polished creations, in both furniture and housewares, are hallmarks of contemporary style and design. A huge, cinema-size television screen dominates the main living area with black leather lounges set up for perfect viewing.

The dining area is heavily influenced by Rondel’s design style and features a large circular black dining table, complete with “cat-like” stainless steel and black leather chairs.

The large galley-style kitchen is set up to perform to an “industrial strength”, with a 6 burner stainless-steel gas cooker and a commercial dishwasher which completes a cycle in around one minute. Of course, no kitchen would be complete without the professional espresso / cappuccino machine, located on the bench top.

The light and spacey futuristic bathroom is formed from aluminium sheeting and glass. Even the toilet bowl is solid stainless steel. It was salvaged from a local prison. The bath is made entirely from sheets of thickened glass. For privacy, a screen can be rotated around to provide some seclusion for the bathroom area from the rest of the house. Not a home that you would typically associate with the nearby rolling green hills and rugged coastline of New Zealand.
