Twin sisters Maude and Anni Davey have been performing for the past 10 years. Anni, the former acting general manager of Circus Oz, has been running her own women's circus group called Club Swing since 1994. She concentrates on trapeze acts while Maude is a freelance performer acting in TV, film and theatre. The sisters perform in a singing group together but usually work on different projects.
Their Melbourne warehouse used to be a band rehearsal hall, before they converted it into living accommodation. The sisters wanted a space that they could live and train in.
A second level was built to create a 7.5m atrium. Here Anni has had a trapeze built so she can practice her strength work and catcher act. Large wooden beams (250mm x 250mm) were inserted in order to carry the load-bearing ropes of the trapeze.
To maintain the sense of open space, the kitchen, bathroom and laundry are situated around the perimeter of the room. Their bath sits in the middle of the room, with no walls for privacy. From this vantage point they can either watch TV or chat to guests.
A metal "fish" skeleton, welded between the ceiling and the floor, is used to hold the taps and shower nozzle in position in the bath area.
Other interesting features include a front door made from spanners and bits and pieces and also a metal sculpture on the roof, based on Anni's pole act. The twins also have identical bedrooms as well as two equally-sized roof top gardens.
