Rebecca was flown by helicopter to visit the house of radio and TV star Doug Mulray, situated on a hilltop in the Sydney suburb of Cromer. With a swimming pool, tennis court and its own heli-pad Doug's gorgeous home is well equipped for a fantastic lifestyle - that is if you have a lazy $4 million to spare.
Doug and wife Lizzie bought the Cromer dwelling with the intention of making a few adjustments to make the place feel more like home. Yet nine years have passed and not much has changed, which Doug says is the result of their extremely busy lives. Their plans to rebuild their kitchen, redecorate and redesign the layout of the house never came into fruition. The garden was the only part of the house that received attention. A lot of time and energy was invested in creating such a striking retreat for the family.
The two storey residence is set on two hectares and is surrounded by bushland which extends down a cliff face. There are five bedrooms, three bathrooms and a large open plan lounge/dining room and that is not including the guesthouse.
The guesthouse by the swimming pool is now the residence for the caretaker who will maintain the property until it's sold but while Doug lived there it had a different life altogether. Doug fondly dubs the guesthouse as the 'pool house', the 'games house' or 'party house' because it has been the home to much entertaining. He says the beauty of it is you can totally trash it with mess and empties and wake up on Sunday morning knowing you don't have to worry about it until Monday.
Currently, the Mulray family is living in their new home in nearby Curl Curl. The Cromer residence is for sale through John McGrath Real Estate. Doug knocked back $3.7 million for the home at a recent auction because he knows that it is worth more and is willing to wait for the right price.
