Now a weekend retreat, the cottage is awash with colour and finishes which were inspired by the nearby sea. Owner Peter Lewis, founder and director of Porter's Paints is just the man you'd expect to have experimented with such unusual colours and interesting textures.
Peter bought the 1930's fisherman's shack almost eight years ago and has since given it new life with furniture, accessories and colours, which are in keeping with the coastal theme. Peter says the external colour of the cottage changes nearly every year because the salt air and the beating the cottage gets from the westerly sun are great endurance tests for new products.
The cottage appropriately named "Snapper Lodge", is used as an escape on weekends for Peter and his family, and is furnished accordingly with simple timber pieces and large comfortable couches. The brightly coloured walls are decorated with a items that carry on the beachside theme including fishing tackle, rope, buoys and artwork. There are many windows to take advantage of the water views and huge sliding doors at the front which open onto the water and allow the fresh sea breezes through the cottage.
The cottage is one large L-shaped, open plan room with the kitchen, dining and living areas at the opposite end to the sleeping area. It is very compact but Peter says he doesn't mind because it is easy to clean. There is also a small, one-room guest cottage out the back that is not overly comfortable because, as Peter says, "you don't want your guests to stay forever."
