Sue Nader is the owner and 'driving force' behind a beautifully renovated bungalow on the south coast of NSW.

This quaint home has been in the Nader family for about 30 years. When it came into Sue's care it was simply a gutted shell just waiting to be nurtured and brought back to life. The Naders began by removing all the internal wall linings, demolishing the chimney and ordering a new iron roof.

Over the past five years, Sue has coordinated the entire project of refurbishing the cottage and, with the help of a builder to do the major construction work, has completed much of the work herself. As well as ripping up all the old carpet, lino and tacks to reveal the hardwood timber floors Sue refreshed with walls with colour using various techniques for painted finishes.

One of the main projects, and now a feature of the house, was the painting of the enclosed verandah timber floor. The slow, tedious and exhausting task (all painting was done with narrow brushes) transformed an otherwise standard timber floor into an effective and striking piece of art, with a lime-wash colour effect in various patterns. The floor took around three months to complete.

The children's room has been splashed with fun colours and animal paintings, the kitchen has been replaced, the walls have been replastered, the bathroom and laundry have both had a makeover and the floors have been painted. In fact, the only original thing left in the three bedroom bungalow is the ceiling - Sue figured "she had to stop somewhere"!

Currently, Sue is working on the garden. With the use of brick and riverstones, she is creating a paved area for entertaining and constructing a hopscotch template outside the children's cubbyhouse.
