We take a look at a home at the upper-end of the real estate market. Grande Villa, an ornate eight-bedroom home built on two levels, overlooks Sydney's tranquil Middle Harbour. Among its many features are a guest wing, a pool and tennis court and a beautiful landscaped garden leading down to the water's edge.

The Asian influence can be seen throughout the house. The huge carved wooden entrance doors, at around four metres high, were inspired by wood carvings found in Thailand.

The five-star foyer area has a decorative glass panel that has been intricately carved with a rainforest theme and abundant wildlife. Floor-to-ceiling carved batik-style doors lead to the kitchen and a large storage room, while four stone statues, brought back from one of many trips to Asia, line the corridor. They are certainly impressive, and the owner dates them to around the fifth or sixth century.

The kitchen is larger than some apartments. Along one wall are the bench tops, ovens and sinks, while along another is a feature cabinet, specially made to display table settings. Leading off the kitchen is a walk-in-pantry about the size of a child's bedroom.

The magnificent sweeping staircase leads to the main living area which has a large balcony overlooking the pool and garden and showcases some amazing water views. This room contains a 12-seat dining table supported on ornate legs carved into the shape of two men bent double, "supporting" its weight.

Off this living area is a corridor leading to the master bedroom. This vast room, like all the other bedrooms in the house, has its own balcony with water views. The ensuite contains an impressive addition in the form of a two metre tall carved mask from Bangkok, one of two in the house. The enormous walk-in wardrobe has to be seen to be believed, and is the size of a large living area.

The second level living area, also with a balcony and beautiful views, is reached via a wide marble staircase. On display is a beautiful mirrored fish sculpture and an intricate frangipani tree "carved" out of paper. The guest wing features six bedrooms, together with a massage room and spa bath.

A winding path leads through the garden to the water's edge, passing more statues along the way. There is also a paved area at the bottom which is perfect for entertaining. An inclinator shortens the trip to and from the house.

The house contains many incredible statues, paintings, carved sculptures and ornate masks, and many of these will be sold with the house, which is on the market for more than $6,000,000.
