Perched on a cliff top overlooking Sydney’s Bungan beach, with extensive views 30km south across the city to Bondi, is this period sandstone home which is under-going extensive renovation.
Built in 1910, for the Smith sisters of Manly, the cottage was originally used as a holiday home. The journey then would have taken several hours by horse and cart, as opposed to the half an hour today by car.
The new owners have retained the original cottage, extending on three sides, to surround the original structure centre with light-filled, view-capturing rooms. All the former perimeter sandstone block walls and windows are now features inside the home, giving it a charming and authentic feel.
A rough estimate of current market value would see it worth more than 5,000 times the original price that the sisters paid for it.
