| Verandah Makeover |
| We checked out an incredibly clever verandah makeover on a house that was originally a caretaker's cottage. |

1 The owners decided to renovate the old verandah and construct a fence down the side of the house. The original entry steps were at the side of the house and had to be moved to make way for the new fence. They were still in good condition and were recycled for the new entrance. A section of the front wall was cut away and a new slab was laid. The old steps were simply fitted into their new location.
2 Tiles were to be laid over the timber on the verandah floor. The timber was prepared by sanding off most of the paint. Next, a primer was spread over the surface. The primer should be left for about an hour to dry.
3 Next, a special adhesive called Davcoflex was mixed. The secret to the adhesive is crumbed rubber in the powder, which enables the adhesive to absorb vibration and movement in the old floor. A combination of acrylic latex and cement also makes it waterproof.
4 Now the tiles can be laid. The tiles are from Tilecraft's Mexican range and are suitable for high-traffic areas. Finally, a light beige grout is applied and the tiling is complete.
