Fairy Bedroom Makeover
Turn the children's bedroom into a magical place using a fairy theme. As folklore says, fairies just love things to be neat and tidy, so let's hope that it encourages tidiness.

A fairy haven needs more than a sprinkle of stardust. After preparation, every surface was painted in shades of purple, pink and blue. The children had put stickers everywhere and stickers by their nature are stubborn. So to get them off use a spatula, eucalyptus oil and hot soapy water. Any remaining bumpiness needs to be smoothed with sandpaper.

The furniture was prepared with a light sand and some ESP and then painted with Taubman's Verdi Blue Acrylic Gloss for the bunks and Robin Blue Acrylic Gloss for the door and dresser. Once the trims were painted and the wall colour Lady Orchid had dried, we gave it a cloud-like finish using a top coat in a deep shade of mauve called Magnetism. This was mixed with a watered-down scumble medium to give it transparency and extend its drying time. Finally we dabbed the top coat with wet muslin to soften the edges.

3
The next task involved trying to find a few ways of hiding excess mess. An old chipboard box came in handy for toy storage and we doubled its usefulness by attaching castors to the base and padding the top, turning it into a moving seat. We gave it some colour using paint and paper. The paint we used was left-over Lady Orchid and the paper was a pre-glued frieze. The seat was made using foam glued to the top with contact. Matching velvet was attached with a staple gun. The castors were simply screwed to the base, one in each corner.

Well, the room was starting to take shape but we still had a bit of decorating to do and believe it or not we attached some more stickers. However the stickers we used were very decorative and not out of keeping with our fairy theme and they are made to peel straight off any surface. We used voile continuous curtains to dress the windows in the right style, and to hide the messy bookshelves. Fairy sheets, some hand-made decorations and goodies from the Fairyland Shop completed our magical new room.
