Laminate Kitchen Makeover
A young, newly married couple wanted a sleek, modern look for their new kitchen, but didn't want it to come with a hefty price tag.

1
They wanted to use long-life materials, so for the floor they opted for durable brush box, a hardwood which is great in high-traffic areas. A thick coat of polyurethane was applied for protection.

2
The kickboards were made from plywood and covered with a brushed aluminium laminate, a budget-friendly alternative to stainless steel, and in keeping with the contemporary theme of the kitchen.

3
The cabinets were factory-assembled, made of moisture-resistant particle board with solid timber rails for added strength. The shelves are made from moisture-resistant melamine and are adjustable to any height.

4
The owners chose a granite look-alike laminate called Graphite for the bench tops, which makes a practical, relatively lightweight alternative to real stone. The cupboard doors are particle board covered by silver ash veneer, giving a realistic timber look. Some of the overhead cupboard doors feature rippled glass to break the monotony of plain timber.

5
The five utensil drawers are solid metal box drawers rather than timber drawers, making them a lot stronger.

6
By saving money in other areas, the owners have been able to lash out on quality appliances, and could also afford to have the doors of the fridge and the dishwasher clad in stainless steel sheeting. You can investigate this service with different whitegoods suppliers.

7
A stainless steel range hood and splashback were installed as a bit of a feature, as were the black and grey glass mosaic tiles on the rest of the splashback areas.
The end result is a very clean, modern kitchen with all the essentials. What's more, it cost a fraction of the price it would have if solid timber and real granite had been used.
