| A Queensland homeowner has realised his childhood dream, reproducing a magnificent and historic NSW homestead. |

This beautiful Queensland home is nestled on three hectares in the tranquil Gold Coast hinterland. The owner of the house, Steve Cavalier, modelled his five-bedroom home on Ettalong Hall, a historic homestead built more than a century ago in NSW. Ettalong Hall was a magnificent sandstone house where Steve used to play as a child. It was always his dream to build himself a home just like it.

Steve built Ettalong out of limestone and designed it as a long house to take advantage of the breeze and the view and to maximise the benefits of the Queensland sunshine. Incidentally, Ettalong is an Aboriginal name which means "a place to drink".

The outside of the house is modelled on Ettalong Hall. Several pieces inside are interesting antiques. These include a round butter churn from the 1800s and a beautiful 19th-century silky oak bed which Steve restored himself.

Steve and his wife, Cathy, love entertaining, and the kitchen is big enough to handle a large crowd. It also has an old-fashioned larder where you can do all your food preparation out of sight.

Speaking of keeping things out of sight, there are window seats scattered throughout the house that not only look great but also provide plenty of storage space.

Ettalong also has its own tennis court, swimming pool, billiard room and, of course, the odd farm animal.
