The owners we visited decided to use the product for a new path and some individual stepping stones.

1
The first job is to remove the grass and top soil and level out the base.

2
Next, mix the concrete. One 30kg bag of cobble pave concrete mix will fill one cobble pave section. So, depending on the size of the project, you may want to hire a mixer for the day.

3
Position the mould, fill the sections with concrete and press the concrete firmly in place.

4
Level it off with a wooden float and remove the mould straight away. Use a trowel to smooth over any rough edges and when the concrete starts to harden, a wipe over with a paint brush will give the surface a slightly more textured finish.

5
For a random effect, give the mould a quarter turn before repeating the whole procedure. The owners decided to leave the paving grey, but coloured oxide can be added to the concrete during the mixing stage.

6
On the bottom of the mould are little legs which were taken off for our pathway because it's only going to be a light traffic area. But if you were paving a driveway, for instance, you'd leave the legs on to get a thicker concrete base. In that case, you'd also have to reinforce with steel mesh.

7
For curves or forks in your path, it's best to cut straight into a freshly made section, remove the unwanted mix, then replace the mould and keep going.

8
After 24 hours the concrete is ready to walk on. You can then back-fill the edges and fill in the cracks. Materials that you can use for this include sand, soil, mulch, however the owners decided on a fine, pine bark mix.

Cost
Concrete $ 250.00 Mixer $ 25.00 Mould $ 20.00 Pine Bark $ 11.00 Total $ 306.00
