| A family home turns wheelchair friendly in no time... |

A tragic accident has left 19-year-old Kristie-Lee in a wheel chair. While making a right hand turn, Kristie-Lee was hit by another car. As a result she has spent the past 10 months in rehabilitation. Her parents have raced against the clock to have the family home made wheel-chair friendly in time for Kristie-Lee's discharge from the rehabilitation centre.
The back wall of the house was moved 1.7m to create additional storage space plus room for a larger laundry, toilet and shower. Double doorways were also installed, making access to these areas easier for Kristie-Lee.
The old extensions at the back of the house left the floor uneven. To level the area for wheelchair mobility, and to ensure no water from outside could run inside, the floor was raised to one level. This narrowed the distance between the floor and ceiling, so the roof also had to be raised.
Ramps replaced all steps so that Kristie-Lee has full access to the home. The house was painted using Dulux interior and exterior paints. The interior colours are White Opal, Leek and Primeval. The exterior colours are Heritage Red and Traditional Pascal Cream.
Finally, as a special surprise for the family, Our House joined forces with Greenhouse Health and Sport to provide the family with a new battery powered pool lift. The pool lift was custom made to fit the backyard swimming pool, making installation quick and easy.
To further assist Kristie-Lee with her recovery, as well as to help similar people in need, the Kristie-Lee Charitable Foundation will soon be established. The need for a foundation to assist Kristie-Lee is based on the assumption that she will not receive a large pay-out from Workers Compensation sometime soon.
The maximum pay-out Kristie-Lee can receive is $172,000. Even if she is granted the full amount, the money won't last indefinitely. Her care currently costs more than $6700 per week.
While the Kristie-Lee Charitable Foundation is being established, it is operating under the wing of The Lions Club of Hornsby Incorporated (authority number CFN10756). Although it is not yet fully operable in its own right, the Foundation has already helped another family in need with a son in a similar situation to Kristie-Lee.
Donations to the Kristie-Lee Charitable Foundation are gratefully received, whether they be cash, or goods suitable for raffles and auctions. All cash donations are tax refundable.
