Kathryn and Eric Venema love to decorate. They've done the main bedroom, bathroom and laundry using her favourite paint effects, but hasn't had much luck in the living room. They've made curtains for the big windows and tried to repair an old lounge suite with new cushion covers and pink sheets doubling as throws. But it's not quite coming together. And perhaps the biggest problem of all is finding somewhere to store Kathryn's video collection. She has hundreds of tapes and only a small lounge room.
BEFORE
Dull blue walls and peeling wood trim.
Lack of storage for video collection.
Old, dirty carpet.
Tired, worn lounge suite with mismatched covers and sheets doubling as throws.
Heavy floral curtains that close in the room.
Small, uncomfortable kitchen table and chairs.
Ugly heating and air conditioning units attached to walls.
DURING
Walls given a fresh coat of paint with Dulux Eggshell Pink and a feature wall painted Mocha Magic. Wood trim with a gloss acrylic tinted with one quarter strength Eggshell Pink.
Custom made cabinet installed to house Kathryn's extensive video collection.
Cabinet painted to match the skirting boards and doors.
Carpet replaced with Minster Performance Plus carpet which has Scotchguard stain release protection. The carpet is from the Magic Allure range and the colour is Taupe.
Old sofas replaced with a new Nikkala 3-seater from IKEA. Because the room is small, only one new sofa will be used in the room, with large floor cushions providing extra seating.
Floral curtains replaced with ready-made blinds from Target Home.
Ugly kitchen table and chairs replaced with a new setting from Target Home.
Air conditioning and heating units covered with fabric slips which must be removed when in use.
AFTER
Freshly painted walls and wood trim brighten and add a sense of style to the room.
New cabinet hides the video collection and enables the hotchpotch of display cabinets and storage units to be removed from the room.
New carpet gives a stylish, modern look.
New sofa and floor cushions provide comfortable seating that coordinates with the new look room.
Air conditioning and heating units hidden from sight. |
