The entrance is the last area to receive any decorative consideration in this home. Worn and tired wall cupboards and an unusual glass paneled wall do not form the most inviting entrance or serve as a visual introduction to the home. Tara will show us some innovative ideas to transform this entrance into a striking feature.

Before
  • Entrance worn, tired and untidy storage space.
  • Two bedroom cupboards on side wall with a mirror and table separating them.
  • Facing wall made up of 16 glass panels in wooden frame. Framework in need of paint and glass looking dull.
  • Polished wooden floor boards.
  • Two large glass windows next to door with faded yellow curtains.

  • During
  • New natural sheer curtains replace existing dull yellow curtains on glass door and windows. Old rods and brackets replaced with chrome pole and silver muslin brackets.
  • Rip out interior of cupboards including doors, melamine shelving, drawers and surrounding timberwork. Decorative panels fixed across the bottom - MDF with extra edging to give them a rebated look. New fixed panels fitted along the top to create a built-in wall unit. Glass shelves installed in the two cavities and MDF pieces stuck to the back wall to give a neat finish.
  • Eight display boxes pre-made from MDF to insert in every alternate recess in the glass panelled wall.
  • Built-in wall unit, recess in wall and display boxes coated in undercoat.
  • The two side cavities of the wall unit painted Porters Limecote Azure Blue and the remainder of the unit an off-white enamel, Dulux Chalk USA.
  • Four display boxes painted with Porters Limecoat Harvest and the remaining four with Porters Limecoat Russett.
  • Glass panels for boxes pre-cut and sent to High Performance Films to apply security film complying with the Australian safety glass standard. Glass inserted in the front of the display boxes and a strip of timber is glued across to give a neat finish.
  • The eight display boxes filled with a variety of natural materials and textures such as sand, dried flowers, pebbles, marbles and wheat to mix different colours and textures.
  • Three downlights in each cavity installed by electrician to highlight the glass shelf area.
  • Tara paint a modern painting to hang over the mirror and Ed makes a frame for the mirror.

  • After
  • Glass panelled wall interesting and modern.
  • Cupboards updated and more organised.
  • Entrance way striking and original.
