Patricia and John's Great Decorating Disaster is their television and reading room, situated at the back of their Queensland home. There is not much wrong with the room structurally but it needs a fresh look to brighten it up and take advantage of the lush tropical setting. Patricia unsuccessfully tried to coordinate the floral curtains with the floral print in the lounge suite which makes the room duller and appear smaller.
Before
Two 2 seater couch and 2 arm chairs in a floral pattern.
Cypress pine floorboards.
Cream walls with peeling paint and cracked plaster.

Two door built in cupboards where John stores some of his books.

During
Ceiling to be re-painted white & walls painted Dulux Crystal Apple low sheen.
Skirting Boards & trims painted white enamel satin finish.
Book shelf/entertainment unit and computer/printer shelf built from Porta Pine. The unit will be built to fit wall-to-wall. It will incorporate three units with a book case at each end. The centre unit will be built to hold the television and VCR. A shelf above the old school desk will be built to hold the printer and fax machine.
Tara will do some bright paintings of flowers to incorporate the beautiful gardens into the room.
Cream cushions are printed with Gondwana Screen Printing Kits.
Old school desk restored using furniture beeswax and leather insert replaced.
Book shelf/entertainment unit and computer/printer shelf painted Dulux Chalk USA then wiped back to show some of the grain.
New cord on light switch replaced with brass cover.
Pink mats replaced with natural Hove Rush mats.
Floral curtains replaced with yellow and white striped Roman blinds.
Coffee table replaced with two white butler tray tables.
After
A fresh new look with a tropical feel to incorporate the beautiful setting.
Floral furnishings replaced with solid, bright colours and layout more practical.
Plenty of storage for John's books making the new storage unit a focal point rather than a dead corner. |
