Bill and Ros have lived in their Revesby home for 13 years. While Bill considers himself a handyman and has successfully attempted several DIY jobs, the bedroom is largely unfinished and in a state of major disrepair. Twelve years ago, Bill removed an old rotting timber window and replaced it with an aluminium window. However, the wall has never been replastered, there are recent signs of mould and the plasterboard has become very fragile. Daggy old green carpet, some mismatched furniture and a hole in the ceiling from an old light fitting complete this decorating disaster.
Before- queen size bed and two old bedside tables with old lamps.
- blanket box underneath window which Bill made from pine and stained with a colour called Alerchi.
- chest of drawers for portable television which Bill also made to co-ordinate with blanket box.
- aluminium windows and old lace curtains/blind.
- hole in the ceiling from old light fitting.
- ceiling fan/light
- plasterboard walls exposed large gaps between ceiling and join of walls in each corner
- wall above window has cracks and is very soft
- wall opposite wardrobe mouldy
- no skirting boards
- old picture rail on wall opposite wardrobe
- sliding door entrance door into bedroom
- old olive green carpet
- old wardrobe against wall facing the bed limited storage with garbage bags full of clothes, linen and also shoes cluttering the floor.
During- remove picture rail
- replace old walls with new Gyprock sheets
- plaster joins of ceiling/floor and walls
- plaster and fix small hole in ceiling
- install skirting boards
- paint walls Dulux Butter, low sheen acrylic and ceiling Dulux Ceiling White
- replace carpet with Invicta Regal Vista range no. 11 neutral beige. Invicta carpets specialise in wool and wool blend carpets. The premium sub brand is The Naturals available in 10 styles and over 90 colours. Regal Vista has a high twist construction, 100% wool with hardwearing characteristics for all areas of the home.
- installation of a built in wardrobe against wall opposite window. The owners chose to have a two door sliding wardrobe installed by Wardrobe World which is a ventilated shelving system tailored with shelving and hanging space for both Bill and Rosslyn's clothes, shoes and blankets.
- paint wardrobe doors with Dulux White Leather
- install new headboard for bed and 2 side tables - wax and polish
- replace old brown blind with a new Holland blind in Ivory
- stain new curtain pole and lamp bases
- new bed linen, burgundy/blue scatter cushions, curtains and 2 lamps for side tables.
After- bedroom more functional with better storage options and a lighter more open feel.
- furniture more uniform, and coordinated to Bill's handmade items.
- cosier, rich and luxurious with warm beachy colours used on walls and fabrics.
