Girls' bedroom makeover
A dreamy bedroom makeover for a young girl.

This young girl's bedroom is crowded with a hotchpotch of furniture and knick knacks. Tara's stepping in to transform the room into a little girl's delight. It's as simple as a new coat of paint and some pretty additions, and best of all it won't cost the earth.

Before
  • Dull, flaky paint on walls
  • Plain, boring decor
  • Cluttered
  • Mismatched furniture
  • Old, ugly and uncomfortable bed.

During
  • The walls were given a fresh coat of paint, using Dulux Sweet Buttercup. The cupboard doors and trim were painted Chalk USA.
  • A wallpaper border was placed above the picture rail for a pretty finishing touch to the walls.
  • A peg board was attached under the picture rail and the screws hidden with filler.
  • A small timber shelf with wrought iron brackets was attached to the wall for extra storage. A strip of braid was used to soften the edges.
  • The old bed was replaced with a Capt'n Snooze ensemble.
  • To add a decorative touch to the new bed, we bought a white iron day bed surround from Copperart. This is a great alternative to buying a fixed day bed, as it is much cheaper and can be quickly and easily removed if the décor is changed further down the track.
  • To hide the clutter, narrow toy/blanket boxes were placed along one wall under the window. Using a small router with a V-groove cutter, grooves were etched into the boxes so they look like they are made from tongue and groove boards. With pillows and scatter cushions on top, these can double as window seats.
  • A second hand dressing table was stripped and lightly sanded to suit the new room. A checked gingham skirt was attached with velcro and small porcelain and brass knobs from Trilogie were attached.
  • New curtains were made from an old table cloth.
  • Decorative wall hangings were made from old fabric, paper and letters.
  • Finishing touches include picture frames decorated with the left over wallpaper border.

After
  • Freshly painted walls brighten the room.
  • Comfortable new bed with pretty surround.
  • Additional storage which doubles as seating.
  • Furniture suits the décor of the new look room.
  • The finished product is a pretty and cheerful room suitable for a young girl.
