Tara brings new life into a tired and dark lounge room. Currently dull and not too cosy, we'll see how a few simple solutions can prepare the room for the coming winter, making it lighter, more organised and inviting, perfect for curling up in front of the fire. Tara will also make the room more like a formal lounge than the family playroom it has become.
Before
- Family/TV/playroom for owners and their 6 year old daughter
- Located at front of house with large timber framed window overlooking garden
- Existing fireplace and mantle that owners don't use
- Television and video in cramped corner cupboard
- Toys scattered throughout room as there is no storage
- Walls vanilla crème, ceiling white and polished floor boards
- Dark red patterned rug in centre of room covering floor boards which makes the room appear darker
- Large 3 seater couch and 2 arm chairs covered with dark printed fabric
During
- Tara will paint the walls Dulux Tusk Tusk and the fireplace wall Dulux Grape Arbor. The grape colour has been chosen to match one of the couch fabrics
- Fireplace to become the feature with the installation of a gas Jetmaster
- A timber border frame installed around the fireplace to coordinate with the TV cabinet
- A TV cabinet extension built by Shirl and the entire unit repainted
- A blanket box to store toys painted Dulux Tusk Tusk to coordinate with room
- A white Flokati rug replaces existing dark rug to add light to the room
- Tara will decorate a large mirror to install above the fireplace

- Room more practical and ready for the coming winter

Jetmaster Tips
- You must have an approved open wood burning fireplace built to the Australian building code or approved standard for solid fuel fireplaces AS2918. The fire must draw properly as a wood fire.
- It is recommended that the chimney be swept prior to installation to ensure no blockages and to make sure the it is sound.
- The chimney can be straight or curved but the angle of curve should be no more than 45 degrees. Ninety degree angles are not permitted.
- The size of the chimney should be no less than 400cm squared all the way through the chimney.
- To check if an existing fireplace is drawing properly place 3 or 4 scrunched up balls of newspaper at the base of the fire and light. The paper will burn for a short period of time with a lot of smoke which should draw up the chimney. If smoke is detected in the room and all the above checks have been carried out by an authorised sweep, the firebox can be inserted without the gas burner and the same test performed. This will work as the Jetmaster firebox has been designed in the correct proportions and shape to ensure a draft with an adequate chimney. The gas burner can then be connected into the firebox knowing it will work safely. An approved AGA gas cap must then be placed (legal requirement) at the top of the chimney which ensures that wind will not blow down the chimney and that birds cannot nest in the chimney causing blockages.
- The 600 Jetmaster firebox ensures a safe draft so that no gas fumes are emitted in the room. The firebox is designed so that it produces convection heat by drawing room air into the rear heat exchanger and expelling hot air into the room via a jet at the top of the firebox. The steel firebox (guaranteed for 15 years) radiates heat into the room. The combination of both radiant and convection heat warms the room, body and soul. The traditional open fire may have soothed the soul but did not effectively warm the room and body.
- All Jetmaster burners are fitted with oxygen depletion safety pilots so that the burner will cut out should the unit be spilling excessive gas fumes into the room.
- Gas line should be introduced on right hand side of fireplace when looking at fireplace from room. Firebox should be well insulated and sealed into existing cavity. The firebox is available in 6 sizes to suit a variety of existing openings. The firebox can also be used in the construction of a new fireplace.
- All Jetmaster fires burn both wood and gas and can be easily converted from one to the other at any stage.
- The firebox has a rear or top flue which can run horizontally and be terminated on an outside wall. This feature reduces installation costs and is ideal for double storey homes or apartments where a vertical flue may be difficult to install.
