| Extensive renovations to an old beach house doubled its size |

Builder Jim Davies has made extensive changes to the house. The addition of a second storey has made this award-winning beach house twice the size of the original home.

The second storey, which includes a bedroom and bathroom, has views of the ocean and Surfers Paradise.

In keeping with the home's original design, the ceiling on the second floor is curved and has radiata pine trusses. This innovative design permitted Jim to overcome height restrictions, while maintaining a feeling of space.

The renovations combine the old and the new. In the study and dining area the original cypress pine floors and curved ceiling have been maintained.

The verandah has been closed in to create a conservatory and living area.

The balcony adjoining the bedroom has louvred screens for privacy.

All renovations were done in the absence of the owners. Jim videotaped the whole process from excavation through to the final touches. This enabled the owners to consult with Jim over such things as picking the right tiles for the bathroom and choosing the final colour scheme.

The final result is a vibrant, fresh, open home - perfect for beachside living.
