Many people find it difficult to visualise how a finished colour scheme will look. A new computer program developed by Australian-owned paint manufacturer Haymes, provides the home decorator with an easy and affordable solution.
The CD-ROM allows you to choose any mix of the 1113 Haymes paint colours for the interior and exterior of your home. You can even co-ordinate your furnishings into the new colour scheme and print out your efforts with a colour-coded chart to take straight to the paint store. To use Haymes Computer Painter CD, you need a CD-ROM drive and a printer, together with either a digital camera, or a scanner to scan in your home photos.
You can either choose from images already in the program (Federation, Californian bungalow style, etc.), or you can scan photos of the exterior and interior of your house into the computer, and go from there. If you don’t have a scanner at home, you can take your film to any photo developer and they will transfer the photos to disc to be loaded onto your computer.
The CD-ROM also allows manipulation of the picture. It’s possible to remove the texture of brickwork or to render a wall. If you are thinking of extensions you can add another storey to your house, and furnishings in a room can be re-coloured.
The areas to be painted have to be marked or “stencilled” first, using the software supplied. The marked areas then have to be tagged. Colours from the wall chart can then be added to the picture with a few simple mouse clicks. When you have finished, the picture can be printed for comparison and the paints bought at your local hardware store. So throw out those sample pots and give this quick and easy system a go!

Haymes Computer Painter CD is priced at $29.95, plus postage and handling, (including $15 worth of vouchers) and you need a PC with a CD ROM drive and a printer to be able to use it.
