Front Garden Pool
Why did they build in the front garden?

With the addition of a swimming pool, this family are about to make ‘full’ use of their front garden, as the back yard is too small for this project. The venture does however, have a price - to make way for the pool, the award-winning front garden has to be removed. The plants will be stored in pots so that when the pool construction is complete, they can be reused as part of the new landscape design.

1
The front area is excavated and timber formwork used to outline the shape of the pool. The steel reinforcing supports the concrete, which is then poured on top.

2
Plumbing is next completed, along with the laying of the waterline tiles. Preparation for the new paving is then completed, before the new ones are laid.

3
Due to council regulations, the paling fence is removed, turned around and put back into place (with the horizontal rails on the inside). This is to prevent curious children being able to climb the fence from the outside, accessing the potentially dangerous pool area.

4
When the fencing is in place (which, by council regulation, has to be up before the pool is filled with water), the pebblecreting is then laid. (In preparation for the pebblecrete surface, the concrete interior is first water-blasted).

5
The plants are repositioned in the new landscaped pool area, which has been transformed into a sun-drenched courtyard. The pool is then filled. The project took around 10 weeks to complete, with some delay due to bad weather.

Cost
Waterline tiles: Style: KER070, $32.95 per square metre. Coping: Style: Austral Stairnose ROSSO, $12.95 per piece. Border Paver: Style: Morocco, $29.95 per sqare metre. Main Paver: Style: Autumn Cream, $29.95 per square metre. The overall cost of the project was around $28,000 - $30,000.
