A newly married couple used a design company to help plan their dream kitchen. One advantage of using a design and installation company is that all the items arrive on site ready to assemble. They've also chosen laminate products for easy maintenance. The old one was first removed, and services such as plumbing and wiring connected.

1
The kickboards are first placed into position, levelled and screwed to the floor.

2
Next, the rest of the kitchen carcasses are installed. The couple are installing a central island, providing a spacious work area with lots of underneath storage and space for a microwave oven.

(The laminate benchtops are Storm Cloud Grey Blue from Formica, and the cupboards and drawers are a natural timber-look laminate from Laminex called Curly Birch Natural Finish).

3
The laminate doors and drawers are installed, finishing off the installation process with butter coloured tiled splashbacks, from Tilecraft. This kitchen incorporates handy additions such as built in plate and wine racks above the fridge and even a special space for the cook books. (The handles on the doors are called satin bow, which are brushed aluminium, in a half moon shape).

Tips

1
To repair small holes in your timber kitchen floor (an old gas line hole, for example), cut in to the hole at an angle so that a small timber plug will be held in place when glued. This method is ideal when access underneath the floor is not possible.

2
Non-slip ridged vinyl sheeting can be used to line your drawers to prevent plates and cutlery from sliding around when the drawer is opened and closed, etc.

Cost
The retail cost of the kitchen was around $12,000 (including appliances and installation).
