The window box under the bay windows is taking up valuable lounge space that could be better utilised. Now is the time to remove it!

The window box is a simple carcass that was installed after the walls had been lined so it's not too difficult to get rid of it. First the lid is removed and then the remaining screws that hold the assembly together.

Next, the old skirting is carefully levered off the bottom of the box. This piece is to be re-used.

The old screw holes in the wall are then filled, and the recycled skirting fitted. Once the filler dries, the wall is painted.

Using "spare" carpet from the inside of your built-in wardrobe, now cover the floor where the window box was. Just cut the piece of carpet to size and fit into the space. The weight of the sofa and other furniture will hold it in place. If you have a heavy traffic area, call in a professional tradesman to do the job of joining the carpet.
