1
Remove the existing wooden fence and then clear a pathway on the boundary line between the two properties.

2
Mark out spacings for the posts at 1.5m intervals, making sure to measure from the centre of the hole and not the edge.

3
Dig holes about a third of the total length of the post. For this job we will be using a hole digger called an earth auger (200mm) and will be going down 900mm.

4
Mix enough concrete for two post holes and then place a post in the holes at either end of the line to be done. Make sure the posts are set plumb using a level. Pour concrete into hole to ground level.

5
Run a string between the posts to set the line and then repeat the procedure for the remaining posts.

6
Once the concrete is dry, cut the posts to the required height following the contour of the ground. The required height is when you allow for the chain wire to be close to the ground and reach the top rail for fixing. In this case, all the posts should now be 1500mm high to fit the chain wire properly without any gaps.

7
Treat the cut ends of the posts with a wood preservative to stop them from rotting.

8
Fix the top rail on to the top of the posts with 150mm nails. (Hint: try to make sure the rails are joined on top of the posts.)

9
Fasten the top corner of the chain wire to one end of the fence line with galvanised fencing staples and continue fixing down the post. Continue the procedure along the top rail and then down each post as you come to it. (Hint: use two people to pull out chain wire when nailing to get an even tension. Then, when nailing close to the end of each top rail, make sure to pre-drill to prevent splitting.)

10
Finally, thread the black PVC lacing wire through the bottom of the fencing and pull tight to straighten and fix the chain wire.
