The Sun building was built in 1928 as a news office and printery for the Truth and Sportsman newspapers. It has also served as headquarters for the Australian, Sunday Sun, Daily Sun and Trading Post papers, and for TV Week.
The building is heritage-listed, which means that the facade cannot be altered. Inside, however, the building will comprise 42 one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments that are unique in style and "lend their sympathy to the design of the time".
There are currently two display apartments, which have very different styles. The first is a two-bedroom apartment with a green and cream colour scheme. It's called the Audrey, after Audrey Hepburn.
The second is the Priscilla, a one-bedroom apartment that features bright yellow, blue and orange mosaic benches and dark blue carpet. To make use of the smaller space in this apartment, the dividing wall between the living area and bedroom is curved.
New features in the building will include double-glazed windows, double walls to reduce noise between apartments, roof gardens and a central open atrium. The building is also close to the city centre and the trendy cafes and shops of Fortitude Valley.
