| A warehouse becomes a home with some innovative features. |

The owner, John England, has kept many of the industrial elements of what was once an industrial warehouse, located in the heart of Brisbane. For example, parallel cord web trusses and handrails have been painted black to make them features.

What was once the old loading dock has been cleverly transformed into the front courtyard. The loading docks of reinforced concrete provide solid support for a very large, very heavy fishpond. The whole front courtyard can be closed off from the weather.

From the courtyard you ascend a few steps to arrive in the large, open living area. The kitchen also follows an open-space plan. The front panel of the kitchen benchtop has been made from a large wooden door, turned on its side. Six metal sheets have been inserted into the door's recessed panels to striking effect. The living area is large - big enough to hold a 22-seat dining table.

Other interesting features in the house include a drinking fountain situated halfway down the staircase. The shelving in the study was originally from an old nunnery. In the bathroom, the sink was created from an old metal bowl. A hole was drilled in the bottom to create a very modern-looking hand basin.

The warehouse also has great views of the local Olympic swimming pool, just behind the house. Full-length glass doors slide open to let the owners enjoy the north-easterly breezes that blow into the kitchen and dining area. Shades can be rolled down for privacy.
