1
Create the backing board. First, measure your bed head and bed end to make sure that your cardboard is the right size. You may want to glue two layers of cardboard together for added strength.

2
Using a pencil, transfer the outline of Pattern 1 (for the bed head) and Pattern 2 (for the end of the bed) onto the cardboard. You may need to adjust the size of the pattern to fit the shape and size of your bed. Cut around the outline of the patterns.

3
On a separate sheet of cardboard (use two layers for added strength), transfer the outline of the toucan, the monkey and the lion (including the grass in front). Cut out the shapes. These will later be glued onto the backing board to create a three-dimensional effect.

4
Prime the front and back of Pattern 1 and Pattern 2 as well as the separate toucan, monkey and lion cardboard pieces with white gesso. This will get rid of any writing or graphics on the cardboard and will make the colours more vibrant. Allow the gesso to dry.

5
Use pencil to transfer the finer details of the design onto the white cardboard pieces.

6
Use the colour legend to apply acrylics to the designated areas. Allow to dry.

7
Using PVA glue, attach the toucan and monkey to Pattern 1, and the lion to Pattern 2. Allow to dry.

8
Apply a coat of varnish to add gloss and protect the surface.

9
Hold your completed cardboard forest pieces against the bed frame. Using a pencil, mark on the backing board the point where it needs to be attached to the bed frame. These marks need to line up with the outline of the bed frame. Create holes in the cardboard by using a drill, darning needle or metal skewer.

10
Finally, thread string through the holes to tie the forest design to the bed frame. The ends of the string shouldn't be seen.
