| Regupol Underlay |
Tired of listening to your neighbours' footsteps treading back and forth above you? Here is one practical solution to this noisy problem.

In order to cut out annoying sounds coming from neighbours in the flat above, due to poor insulation between the two units, the owners who live below decided to have a new thick rubber underlay called Regupol laid, at their expense, under the carpet of the people above.
1 Regupol is made from recycled rubber tyres, shredded and compacted so that sound bounces around, and is contained in, the thousands of tiny air pockets which are formed in the rubber. It comes in several thicknesses; the type used here was the thickest, which should cut 60-80 percent of noise.
2 A qualified carpet layer should be used for this installation. The floorboards are first secured firmly in place, after first removing the old underlay and carpet on top. The new underlay is then loose-laid over the wooden floorboards and the carpet replaced on top.
3 It should be noted that the underlay is most effective in preventing the transmission of impact sounds. Noise can still be transferred through adjoining walls and windows.
4 Regupol can also go under linoleum and parquet flooring. It is suitable for floor heating systems, is mildew- and moisture-proof, and can withstand temperatures from -40 to 110 degrees Celcius. It has no associated health risks and is installed in Hoyts cinemas, the Queensland Conservatorium and RAAF bases throughout Australia.

Cost 5mm thickness, $19.95 sq/m.
10mm thickness, $29.95 sq/m.
17mm thickness, $44.95 sq/m.
This project cost $4500 for the Regupol 17mm thick acoustic dimple underlay, which covered approximately 90 square metres. This includes checking and fixing the timber floor.
