An outside deck is one of the most popular areas in this house, so the homeowners eventually want to incorporate the deck into the living area. This will be achieved by relocating the kitchen to the dining area, knocking down some walls and putting a sliding glass door in the old kitchen wall, thus providing access to the deck.

The first step in their plan was to relocate the kitchen. The original kitchen was tiny, poky and in need of renovation. For convenience, the owners left the existing kitchen in place while the new custom-built kitchen was being installed. This made life a little easier during the renovations, especially with two young children.

The new kitchen was designed and drawn on computer. The measurements were then taken to the factory, where all the pieces were cut to size. It took about a day and a half to install the cabinets, rangehood, cooktop and sink.

The owners opted for a simple white finish on the cupboard doors, with satin chrome bow handles and brushed aluminium kickboards. The benchtops were finished with granite. The owners chose 20mm thick granite in Green Lavras. Finally, white splashback tiles were installed and some stainless steel appliances were added.
