| A kid's ward playroom is tranformed into a wonderland for parents and babies. |

For many children at Melbourne's Sunshine Hospital, the ward's playroom is a home away from home. It is a place where parents can relax and children can play, taking their minds off the intimidating hospital surrounds. Baby Target kindly offered to give the playroom a much-needed facelift, transforming it into a wonderland for parents and babies.
The room's main function is to comfort sick children so Baby Target donated everything a child could want in a playroom.
The playroom was painted in vibrant and cheerful colours. The bottom half of the wall was done in lime green (Chartreuse Green) and the top half painted butter yellow (Beach). A fun animal frieze decorated with birds, chicks and bees was run between the coloured paints. To open the room, the ceiling was painted white. A bright splash of red (Scarlet O'Hara) was painted on one door. The other was covered with the bird, chick and bee theme which will continue through the room.
To screen the sun out on those hot summer days, bird, chick and bee curtains were hung over the outside window. Chambray and coloured fabric strips were used to make curtains for all the other windows in the playroom.
When it's time to curl up with mum for story time, there's a brand new 2.5 seater Metro sofa in a bright yellow fabric and three bird, chick and bee cushions. There's also a comfy new beanbag for an afternoon nap.
With mum and dad relaxing on the couch, the kids need their own furniture so Baby Target donated a great Winnie the Pooh table and chairs. A couple of bright red chairs were placed alongside the play area.
On frosty winter mornings the children need somewhere to hang their winter warmers so that they don't get mixed in with the playroom dress-ups. This problem was easily solved with a couple of bright coat and hat stands.
Red, blue and green toy tubs were filled to the brim with goodies and will also help to keep the room in order. To add a little extra cheer to the room, mobiles were hung from the ceiling and cute bird, chick and bee cut outs were mounted on coloured cardboard and used to decorate the wall and windows.
Sunshine's kids' ward caters for children aged between two weeks and seventeen years with both medical and surgical conditions. This much-needed makeover for the playroom was a start, but the hospital is also undergoing a major development project over the next two years which will result in a broader range of services.
