| The family of this household is outgrowing their home, so the owners have decided to extend. |

To create the extra space the family needs, plus make the most of distant river views, they have decided to extend up instead of out.
The addition of the second storey:
1 The concrete slab was poured at the front of the house (the extension is going slightly out and then up) and scaffolding was erected around the perimeter of the house.
2 The old tiles and rafters were removed from the roof. The ridge beam coming down signals the beginning of a complete overhaul.
3 The sub-flooring (joists, bearers and steal beams) was constructed and particle board flooring was put in place.
4 A single purpose building membrane was placed over the roof to protect the house from the weather and elements. This membrane stays in place for the entire job.
5 The new framework was installed. Wall framing is constructed to support the roof and provide openings for doors and windows. When the frames are true, they are braced diagonally to prevent racking.
6 External sheeting was secured outside. The blueboard sheeting is a special exterior cladding that is tough, durable and waterproof. Once that is nailed onto the framework, the joins are covered and the textured coating begins. The owners chose a coating with a grainy effect.
7 Next, plumbing for the new bathroom was installed. As it turns out, it is the room with the best view.
