The next step for Ray and Natasha in their pre-wedding renovations, is doing up the kid's bedroom. Ray's kid's, Jessica (10) and Shane (8) stay when visiting dad and Natasha. With a bit of help from Tara, their makeshift bedroom will become bright and decorative with some privacy and a bit more space. Tara show's us how it's done.

STEP BY STEP

1 One side of the room was painted magenta, the other blue.
2 For the magenta side Tara painted some simple yellow and orange flowers onto the wall. To give the room an Indian feel, she added tiny mirror and yellow dots to the middle of the flowers.
3 You can stick the mirrors onto the wall using craft glue (we used Boyle glue).
4 To make the petals of the flowers, simply paint them on with the end of a pencil. Tara did this mixing the yellow and orange paint, to create a swirly pattern.
5 For the windows we used silver metal venetian blinds, and to brighten them up placed bright diaphanous drapes down either side.
6 The beds were given brightly coloured bedspreads, with bright cushions on top. To add some more Indian flavour we cut the edges of the bedspreads by a few centimetres, to create a fringed edging.
7 We also decorated shelves with plastic jewels and colourful drop down covers from shelving units. To make the drop down cover, simply sew a seam on all sides, and a thin pocket seam at the bottom. Insert a length of dowel into the bottom pocket and then hang the curtain by stapling it to the top of the unit!
8 Finally make a hoop with lots of coloured ribbons and braids, and hang it from the light fixture from the cord.

STORAGE SOLUTIONS
We saved on space and created some privacy for the kids. We put in a two-door wardrobe with built-in shelves for clothes. We gave the kids their own shelving units, boxes and cutlery baskets for storing toys, books and other bits and pieces. We also placed their beds strategically; with Jessica's behind the door and Shane's facing the other side.
