| Most young couples don't need a lot of room. This all changes when there's an addition to the family. Our expectant couple live in a one bedroom unit and don't want to move house when their new baby arrives. The solution a baby nook in the corner of their bedroom. To make room for the baby, the bed and side tables are moved towards the window. This creates space on the right hand side of the room for the 'baby nook'. With everyone sleeping in the same room it is important to keep the theme sophisticated for the parents yet colourful for baby. The parents don't want to feel like they are camping in the nursery. The sex of the baby isn't known so we've chosen a bright lime green as the main colour with touches of purple, magenta and turquoise. A star theme will be carried through the entire room. At times, baby and parents will want a little privacy. To alleviate the disturbance from light a screen is constructed to form a divider between the parents bed and the baby's crib (see diagram, below, for guidance). Now the parents can read without disturbing baby! The screen is whitewashed and painted in colours to match the rest of the theme. A colourful scene is painted on each panel. A coat of paint transforms an inexpensive pine chest of drawers into a fancy piece of furniture. The drawers are painted in bright colours to match the screen and the star theme is carried through on each opening drawer. Storage is a big concern. The chest of drawers will only hold so much. An effective and inexpensive way around this is to paint lidded cardboard boxes to match the colour scheme. These can be stacked in a corner of the room or under the bed. For decoration, a mosquito net made of star-covered tulle edged with ribbon is hung over the baby's crib along with a star mobile. Wooden stars are painted in colours to match and attached to the walls around the crib. An inexpensive pine rack of hooks is painted and attached to the wall. This is great for storing bunny rugs and face washers and hanging bags for baby's 'bits and pieces'.
