Quick-Step flooring consists of four layers. The top layer is melamine, similar to benchtop laminate, but more durable. Under is the photo layer made from a photo of timber or of a ceramic tile finish. Next is the core layer, a water resistant high density board and finally, another layer of melamine forms the backing.

ADVANTAGES OF THE QUICK-STEP FLOOR

  • Installation is straight-forward as the boards simply click and lock together.

  • The product is durable and has a 10 year guarantee. Even though it looks like wood, it is stronger.

  • The flooring can be installed over any flat surface such as concrete, plywood, chipboard, existing ceramic tiles or vinyl as long as it is dry and has no more than 2mm per lineal metre surface variation.

  • A 2mm foam underlay helps keep noise to a minimum in multi-story dwellings. As the product is not fastened (eg. nailed/glued) or anchored to the sub floor it won't transfer as much noise downstairs.

  • The floor can be packed up and reused.

  • The product is the same depth (about 1cm) as most other floor coverings and can be easily joined to other floor coverings.

STEP BY STEP
1 Prepare the surface and vacuum the floor area.
2 Roll out 2mm foam underlay to cover the floor area and use a Stanley knife to cut it to size.
3 Use construction adhesive to glue aluminium trims (cut to length with hack saw) to the areas where you will be joining the Quick-Step flooring to different surfaces like carpet or tiles etc. Allow the glue to set for 20 minutes.
4 Use a jigsaw or circular saw to cut the Quick-Step floorboards to size.
5 Position one floorboard next to a second floorboard on a 45 degree angle and click into place. Continue clicking the tongue and groove boards together until the floor area has been covered. Leave a 10mm gap around the perimeter of the floor to allow for expansion.
6 Install the skirting boards by fixing them in place with screws, nails or glue. This is decorative but will also conceal the 10mm expansion gap.

RANGE
There are 12 different timber-look patterns in the Quick-Step range.
The boards are 1200 long, 190mm wide and 8mm thick.
They are sold in packs of 1.6m2 (ie. 7 boards)

Cost
Supply only: $45/m2 Supply and installed from: $80/m2
