The most important thing in your home office or study is probably the desk. If you've got a good solid work area with plenty of storage, it's easier to keep your office looking professional and organised. So, Shirl's building an office desk that's just perfect for the job.

Step by Step
1
Specialised machinery is needed to cut veneered board most effectively; therefore you should take your cutting list to your local cabinetmaker or cut to size specialist. He also may be able to apply the edging for an additional charge. The pieces that require edging are indicated after the sizes in the cutting list eg: 2L means 2 long edges and 1S means 1 short edge.
2
Edging can be applied with a standard household iron. Set it to the hottest setting and turn the steam off. Move along the edge slowly giving the glue a chance to melt, push the edging down with a block following the iron.
3
The first procedure in assembling your desk is to lay two end pieces (face down) making sure they are in pairs ie. Edge strip opposing each other. You will find veneered board has a face side and a down graded side. The down graded side will be the inside of your cabinet.
4
Mark the positions of your shelves, back and top rail.
5
Drill clearance holes for your decorative screws. Careful attention is required when marking the positions of screws as they will be seen when completed.
6
Attach shelf and rails to ends, followed by the back.
7
Repeat this same process for both bottom cabinets and also for the top bookshelf. The positioning of the shelves can be done to suit your own requirements.
8
The top is attached by screwing from the underside of the rail.
9
Thoroughly sand entire unit to remove all sharp edges and apply liming solution.
