This handy storage device is perfect for all those bits and pieces used in your home projects. It can also be made using off-cuts of timber from other projects.

Cut the ply (MDF) as follows:

2 strips x 75mm wide, 2 strips x 59mm wide and 1 strip x 150mm wide.

Cut the 75mm wide strips to the following measurements, 2 x 400mm long, 2 x 368mm long.

Measure and cut out the base ply to the overall outer measurements of the sides of your box and glue and nail the shorter lengths in between the longer lengths. (It is a good idea to line up the components together to ensure a correct fit before gluing and nailing).

The handle is shaped and cut from the 150mm wide strip of ply, which fits across the centre of your box. Measure up and cut to the required length. (See diagram). Use a jigsaw to cut the hole for your handle. Glue and nail this handle in the centre of the box. Screw through the side panels and into the handle for added strength.

Cut all the compartment dividers (fitted at either side of the handle) out of 59mm strips (cut length to fit) and glue and nail in place. The box made in this example has 6 compartments, but you can adapt the design to suit your requirements.
