He builds a device to help take the difficulty out of yanking off your boots, and a boot rack to help keep your boots in order. To save money Shirl used scrap timber from the workshop.

Step by step
Boot Rack
(If you require a larger boot rack, adjust pine rail length and dowel pieces to suit.)
1 Cut two pine rails 700mm long.
2 Cut two pieces of ply 390mm long.
3 Mark position for dowel uprights, space them evenly along front and back pine rails.
4 Use a nail to punch a starter hole at each mark. Then drill holes 15-20mm deep into the pine rails using a spade bit. Attach a piece of black tape to the spade bit that mark the depth of the first hole to keep the holes the same depth.
5 To assemble the frame of the rack, glue and screw the ply to the pine from underneath to hide the screws.
6 Put glue in each hole and tap in the dowels. Make sure the dowels are plumb and screw in place.
7 Stain or varnish.

Boot Pull
1 Draw the top of the boot pull (see diagram) onto scrap pine (MDF can be used).
2 Cut out the mouth of the boot pull with a jigsaw. NB: Don't worry if this cut is rough. It will be covered later.
3 Taper in the two sides.
4 Make a stand for the boot pull by planing the top edge off another piece of pine.
5 Finally tack or staple some scrap leather, rubber or vinyl to the inside of the mouth section.
