| Box shelves |
| Box shelves are an easy way to avoid obtrusive brackets and supports. Shirl makes them to a storage size that will suit you and your mess. |

1 Mark the position of the shelf on the wall. Cut the pine support rail for the wall to the desired length of the shelf and trace around the position on the wall. Locate studs in the wall and transfer the position of the studs onto the pine support rail. Depending on length of shelf, make sure you cover at least two studs for maximum support. 2 Pre-drill the holes and screw the pine support rail in place. 3 Screw the right angle brackets to the pine support rail, placing them in line with the ends of the pine rail. See diagram. The brackets will give extra support and be hidden inside the finished shelf. 4 Glue and screw the sides, front and top of the shelf together (fitting the front between the side pieces). To mount shelf on wall, sit it on top of the pine rail and screw through the rail and the brackets. 5 Cut the bottom for the shelf from the 3mm MDF. To attach bottom panel of shelf, glue and fix with some small nails. 6 To cover the front and create a neat, clean finish, cut a piece of 10mm MDF to cover the front completely. Glue and nail in place. 7 Fill in the holes left by the nails to create a smooth surface. Paint the shelf in a colour to suit the room. Diagrams
