Cut out all the pieces of timber according to diagrams. 2 Mark out the positions for the shelves 235mm apart on the 1200mm upright. Mark out the positions for the staggered uprights onto the five shelves. You'll have to mark the tops and bottoms of the four lower shelves, to the measurements below. and only the bottom side of the top shelf.
Start by using one of the shelves as a guide. Mark out the position of the top shelf, then work your way down. To ensure that it is evenly marked, roll the top shelf over, make sure that it is flush at the other end to the guide shelf, and you will be able to mark it in the right spot either side. Do the same for the other four shelves, finishing with the longest piece (which is your bottom shelf).
Rout all the markouts to a depth of 10mm. It is a good idea to make a jig as a guide for your router. To make a jig, you measure the radius from the edge of your blade to the edge of your base plate. This is the clearance you will need all around the markout in the jig to ensure even and snug slots. This measurement should be identical for each markout that is to be routed.
After routing, finish off the corners with a chisel.
Now you are ready to assemble it.
Start with the top shelf, inserting it into the top slot in the upright. Then insert one of the short uprights into the underside of that shelf.
Glue and screw all of the shelves as you go. You may need a clamp to hold it together while you are screwing.
Work your way to the bottom shelf. Don't forget to add the short leg at the bottom of the bottom shelf.
When the glue is dry, it's ready to be sanded and painted.
