1
Cut two of the long lengths of oregon to 2.1m and cut a splay on each end (see diagram 1).

2
Cut the table legs from two of the short lengths of oregon. Cut four (see diagram 2).

3
Cut the centre and end rails out of the last short length of oregon - 3 rails 100mm x 50mm x 740mm long. Remove a piece 50mm x 50mm out of the centre of the rails.

4
The last long length of oregon is to be cut down the centre. Cut one length at 2010mm and the other to 2 lengths at 740mm.

5
Assemble the main frame, making sure that you place the tapered side of the leg so that it faces the centre of the table (leaving a square edge on the outside). Fix the 100mm x 50mm x 740mm rails to the legs, matching up with the angle cut (see diagram 3). Screw the sides of the table to the legs, keeping the edge of the rails 200mm from the end of the table (see diagram 4).

6
Once you have the basic frame screwed together, screw the 50mm x 50mm rails so that they are flush with the ends of the table. Finish the frame by screwing on the centre support rail and the two end rails (see diagram 5).

7
Next, the tabletop. Individually fit each fence paling to the other so that you get the best fit. Glue and nail the palings to the base. For added strength put some PVA glue along the side of each paling. Remember to punch the heads of the nails down, as the palings will eventually be sanded.

8
Trim the edges of the palings with a saw.

9
With a belt-sander, smooth all the unfinished edges and give the tabletop a sanding. The palings can be left rough and weathered-looking, or they can be sanded down to a clear timber finish. Seal with a finish of your choice.
